The Unwritten Resume

We’re all familiar with the written resume. It’s the one where we record our educational and professional accomplishments and history. We have complete control over what is presented and how it is presented. And, we have control over to whom we give a copy. The Unwritten Resume, however, is given to everyone with whom we interact--24/7. We have no control over who gets a copy, and it is far more powerful in influencing decisions and opinions about us than anything that can be written. Simply stated, the written resume is what you want others to see about you and The Unwritten Resume is who you really are to them. It is the collection of impressions that create our brand, not only after we interact with someone but when we are seen from a distance, or when our name is mentioned. The Unwritten Resume is what people refer to when they are considering hiring you, promoting you, investing with you, following you, trusting you, or just being your friend.
